I'm Cullen Grinnan. I'm the program coordinator for the school counseling program at Our Lady of the Lake University. I teach counseling classes.
Lots of our students-- they have family that have been through the program, sometimes recently, sometimes decades ago. There's such a sense of community and family here. And we are trying to duplicate that online.
You kind of get to know who it is that is in your virtual classroom because we've been doing some online stuff, it was real modular. Go in, read this chapter, answer these questions, take this test. And it was rather cold, rather clinical, wasn't a lot of personality to it. Not a lot of warmth.
But we kept trying to add that warmth, add that personality. But with Engage, it has really enhanced our ability to make it feel like a sense of community, instead of being this power differentiation, where the instructor is up here, and the student is down here. We're trying to get it a little more level so that we're collegial.
The focus is school counseling. So they are employed as school counselors. And some of them have been able to go into programs that were marginal guidance programs at the school, and turn them into award winning programs. They get the CREST award. We've had that happen several times.
Then if they follow up with the LPC, sitting for the LPC or the NCC, they can work in a hospital, they can work in clinics, they can work for agencies, they can have a private practice, they can teach at the junior college level, community college level. There's quite a bit open. And more is opening all the time for counselors.
