Accredited by the Council for Social Work Education (CSWE), Our Lady of the Lake University's (OLLU) online Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) is specifically designed to address emerging needs and trends in the social work community while building a time-tested foundation of skills and philosophies.

As a graduate of this program, you can take the licensure exam in Texas and other states.* You may also provide beginning-level counseling services and earn full membership in the National Association of Social Workers.

Below you'll find a breakdown of the courses and credit hours required to complete this degree. You may transfer in up to 72 credits from another university or a community college to apply to your full bachelor's degree, pending approval.

BSW Completion Requirements

Total Number of Credit Hours Required: 120 credit hours

  • Social Work Major Credit Hours: 60 credit hours
  • General Education and Elective Credit Hours: 60 credit hours

Social Work Major Courses

Required Social Work Courses (39 total credit hours)

Required Non–Social Work Courses (21 total credit hours)

 

Additional Requirements

You're also required to take an additional 6 advanced hours from classes in Sociology (SOCI), Psychology (PSYC), Women's Studies (WMST), Criminal Justice (CRIJ) or Comparative Mexican Studies (CMAS). You may also take Social Work (SOWK) courses that you haven't already completed as part of your major.
