Admissions Information

Students interested in applying to any of the online degree programs at Our Lady of the Lake University have access to a wealth of support and guidance from helpful staff members. Admissions requirements and procedures vary for each online program at Our Lady of the Lake, you can find details for each program listed below:

Requirements for Online Bachelor of Social Work for First-Time Freshmen:

Apply for admission as a first-time freshman if you have not attended college. Select this status even if you've earned college credits while in high school or during the summer immediately following high school graduation.

If you have attended a college or university since graduating from high school or earning a GED, see Requirements for BSW Transfer Students section below.

  • A complete application: OLLU Online Application
  • $35 application fee: OLLU Application Fee
  • Official transcripts from all previous post-secondary work (if you do not have an associate's degree, you must also submit your high school transcripts as well as ACT or SAT scores)
  • A GPA of at least 2.5 with minimum scores of 840 on the SAT or 15 on the ACT
  • A GPA of at least 2.0 with minimum scores of 880 on the SAT or 15 on the ACT
  • Students who do not meet the grade and test requirements are recommended to submit letters of recommendation, a resume, or a personal statement to supplement their application
  • A completed Our Lady of the Lake University Student Code of Conduct form

Requirements for Online Bachelor of Social Work Transfer Students:

Apply as a transfer student if you have attended a college or university since graduating from high school or earning a GED.

Admission decisions are made as soon as all application materials have been received. Applying early is important since admission to OLLU is needed to ensure consideration for financial aid, housing, academic advising and registration.

Submit the following to be considered for admission:

  • Application for admission — apply online using the OLLU application
  • Transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
    • If you do not have an associate's degree or have less than 24 transferable semester hours, you must submit your official high school transcript with date of graduation or GED certificate with a minimum score of 45 in each of the five sections.
  • Official College transcript of dual credit earned while in high school (if applicable)
  • Accuplacer test is required if student has not received college level math credit
  • SAT or ACT scores
  • A completed Our Lady of the Lake University Student Code of Conduct form

Requirements for the Online Master of Social Work – Advanced Standing Program:

For the Advanced Standing MSW program (30 credit hours, for candidates with a bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited program), all of the following are required for consideration:

  • A complete application: OLLU Online Application
  • $40 application fee: OLLU Application Fee
  • Completed form for each Letter of Recommendation: LOR Form
  • A bachelor's degree in social work from a program accredited by The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)
  • Cumulative undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.00 in all undergraduate coursework and cumulative social work major
  • Official transcripts from all previous post-secondary work
  • Three letters of recommendation no more than one year old (at least one from an academician if in school within the last three years, others from employers or supervisors)
  • A personal statement addressing the following areas: motivation for graduate studies, motivation for social work, social work-related employment and/or volunteer experiences, social work career goals, and understanding of and identification with the Worden School of Social Service mission
  • A complete and current résumé

Requirements for the Online Master of Social Work – Foundation Program:

For the Foundation MSW program (57 credit hours, for all other undergraduate degrees), all of the following are required for consideration:

  • A complete application: OLLU Online Application
  • $40 application fee: OLLU Application Fee
  • Completed form for each Letter of Recommendation: LOR Form
  • A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Cumulative undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.50*, or a 3.00 for the most recent 60 semester hours of undergraduate work
  • Official transcripts from all previous post-secondary work
  • Three letters of recommendation not more than one year old (at least one from an academician if in school within the last three years, others from employers or supervisors)
  • A personal statement addressing the following areas: motivation for graduate studies, motivation for social work, social work-related employment and/or volunteer experiences, social work career goals, and understanding of and identification with the Worden School of Social Service mission
  • A complete and current résumé

*If cumulative undergraduate GPA is below 3.00, but above 2.50, an additional GPA statement will be required to discuss the circumstances surrounding the undergraduate GPA and plans to be successful at the graduate level.

Requirements for the Online Master of Arts in Counseling:

  • A complete application: OLLU Online Application
  • $40 application fee: OLLU Application Fee
  • Students are required to pay a $10 fee and complete a background check and authorization form
  • An earned baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution and official and sealed transcripts from all regionally accredited institutions previously attended
  • Personal statement
  • Student acknowledgment form
  • Student questionnaire
  • Reference form
  • A completed and current résumé
  • Minimum 2.75 GPA, or 3.0 for most recent 60 hours of academic tenure
  • FERPA Consent to Release Educational Records and Information form – Written consent for release of test records to certification officer and program faculty
  • Current teaching license (if you are a teacher)
  • Teaching service record (if applicable)

NOTE: Applicants that do not meet all the requirements of the ideal candidate are still encouraged to apply. Admissions decisions are based on holistic reviews of an applicant's entire application package.

Requirements for the Online Master of Business Administration:

  • A complete application: OLLU Online Application
  • $40 application fee: OLLU Application Fee
  • A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • A GPA of at least 2.50* for cumulative undergraduate work
  • A list of three references knowledgeable about the applicant's managerial and/or professional performance
  • A personal statement of one to two double-spaced pages describing your long-range professional and scholarly interests
  • A complete and current résumé

  • Official transcripts from all previous post-secondary work

*Candidates with a GPA near, but below, a 2.50 may be considered for the MBA program with an additional GPA Statement to discuss the circumstances surrounding the undergraduate GPA and plans to be successful at the graduate level
