Going back to school brings many changes to your life. Life can be so busy that getting to the grocery can feel like a major calendar event. What aspects of online school make this more manageable? Not having to report to a campus for classes first and foremost brings about a level of flexibility that makes graduate school possible for many! If fully connected into a career at the bachelor’s level or not working at all, many adults find themselves busy with family, children, community work, church, volunteering at a child’s school or sports teams.
This being said I have to admit that I was very worried about successfully balancing all on my plate. As I am now in my third concentration level course I am still getting used to filling in the gaps of time I find for myself. As I was working on a paper the other night until wee hours of the morning, I found myself acknowledging how blessed I felt. Let me elaborate: blessed to be able to do this paper as my family slept, blessed to be in my own home with air conditioning and electricity to power my laptop(s), the flexibility to have professors available through phone and email. The flexibility really helps in calming my anxiety about getting it all done.
It seems so many times in our jobs that we can get overwhelmed and have trouble setting healthy boundaries. This is another area that I believe being an online education helps with also. While I do not have to go to class, the planning and coordinating to get the work done in a time manner while also fitting in typical life events like soccer games, swim meets, dinner, church makes me realize the importance of time usage and most definitely priorities. Online school is definitely going to improve my career life and balance of home. I will forever being grateful, thankful, proud that I managed to make it a priority and made it work!!
