Our Lady of the Lake University's online Master of Arts in Counseling immerses you in the industry's best practices as you prepare for your counseling certification. In as few as three years, you can achieve your master's in counseling while honing your skills and knowledge in an area of interest through one of our three specializations: School Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling.

Topics you'll encounter in your courses are designed according to 2016 Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP Standards) and include a real-world application of key principles, such as human growth, therapeutic techniques, and ethical decision-making in the counseling context.

You'll master counseling theories, methodologies, and techniques that are essential to help clients set and attain challenging educational, career, personal, and social goals.

Choose a Specialization

  • School Counseling: 48 total credit hours
    Help students of all ages get the most out of their education by assessing and finding solutions to common behavioral and learning problems, promoting psychological health, and implementing effective career development planning.
  • Clinical Mental Health: 60 total credit hours
    Help clients of all ages and cultures overcome their emotional health challenges as a clinical mental health counselor in private practice, inpatient or outpatient agencies, government and non-government facilities, or community organizations.
  • Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling: 60 total credit hours
    Improve the lives of vulnerable populations such as the elderly, veterans, those suffering from chronic illness and disability, and recovering addicts, and help them maintain or obtain their job and build a better quality of life.

Prepare for Certification

  • School Counseling
    Prepares you for the Texas School Counseling certification as well as school counseling certifications in many other states.
  • Clinical Mental Health Counseling
    Prepares you to apply for LPC licensure and meets the LPC academic requirement for 60 credit hours.1
  • Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling
    Prepares you to apply for LPC licensure and meets the LPC academic requirement for 60 credit hours.1 Also prepares you to become a Certified Rehabilitative Counselor (CRC)2.
