Advanced Integrative Seminar III

Learn from your experiences in the field.

SOWK 7159 Foundation Integrative Seminar III is the last of a three-part sequence of classes taken during your 450-hour practicum. In this course, you will complete assignments that integrate the generalist knowledge, skills and values learned in foundation courses with the experiences and observations gained through your field education.

Course Description

Throughout your social work career, you will call upon knowledge gained in this degree program to help and serve your clients. While coursework, theories and perspectives are excellent teachers, so is experience. In SOWK 7159 Advanced Integrative Seminar III you’ll see firsthand how the insights you’ve gained throughout this program are leveraged to help provide the best possible outcomes for clients.

The everyday demands of field education involve a range of experiences—some interesting and exciting, others stressful or even dull. Often, because of the day-to-day nature of social work, we may not immediately recognize the value of the experience. During this seminar, you will focus on experiential learning, which requires that you intentionally devote time and energy thinking about and analyzing what you are engaged in doing while in the field.

Assignment Example

Write a critical incident paper detailing an experience in the field, then examine what the experience taught you about your practice and about yourself.

Course Topics

Throughout each week of the course, you will focus on a core topic or theme. Sample topics are listed below and are subject to change based on the instructor.
